The Field Museum of Natural History - Customer Case Study

The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago sought a more reliable, easy-to-manage way to improve public outreach and internal communication after finding their open‑source Majordomo server too costly and limited. They selected L-Soft’s LISTSERV to provide a professional email-list solution that could handle HTML messages, attachments, and moderated lists with minimal operational overhead.

L-Soft’s LISTSERV was installed on the museum’s servers, enabling multiple moderators, automated distribution, and simple management so IT’s support role is minimal. The Field Museum now sends moderated system-wide messages to about 1,050 addresses 10–15 times per week (sometimes up to seven times a day) and operates four additional lists of 100–275 recipients sending 1–8 messages per month, significantly reducing overhead and reliably automating museum communications.
