Lifetime Television launched a Breast Self Examination Reminder Service in March 1999 to raise awareness of breast cancer and prompt monthly self‑exams, but needed a high‑performance email list management solution with reliable web‑based registration and the ability to handle a rapidly growing database. After evaluating options, Lifetime chose L-Soft and its LISTSERV software to provide convenience, reliability and security for monthly mailings and self‑service subscriber management.
L-Soft implemented LISTSERV to run the SELFEXAM one‑way announcement list with automated web registration and confirmation, enabling Lifetime to scale the program to 120,000 subscribers; the station also launched nine additional lists (including an Email Sweepstakes Reminders list with over 240,000 subscriptions). The LISTSERV deployment gave Lifetime Television direct, personalized contact with audiences, supported promotion of shows and ad sales, and measurably increased engagement and the value of its advertising inventory.
