Katholieke Universiteit Leuven - Customer Case Study

Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, one of Europe’s oldest universities with about 28,000 students and thousands of staff, needed a reliable, scalable way to manage campus-wide email communication and protect lists from misuse. To meet this challenge the university has used L-Soft’s LISTSERV email list management software since the mid‑1980s to support discussion lists, edited newsletters and automatically maintained lists fed from student, staff and alumni databases.

L-Soft’s LISTSERV provided built‑in protections (against loops, duplicate postings, spam, viruses and unauthorized senders), easy upgrades and automation that reduced administrative overhead. As a result, K.U. Leuven now runs close to 7,000 lists with roughly 500,000 non‑unique subscribers, averages 10,000 postings a month and saw more than 50,000 messages daily in November 2003, while LISTSERV maintenance consumes only about 5% of a system administrator’s time.
