GIST Support International (GSI) is a patient-driven support organization for people with Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST), a rare and heterogeneous cancer. With about 4,000 members across countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Austria, India, Netherlands, China, Australia, Mexico, Italy and Canada, GSI needed an affordable, reliable way to connect patients and caregivers to share treatment experiences, physician referrals, side-effect management and emotional support. To meet that need they rely on L-Soft’s LISTSERV email groups.

Using L-Soft’s LISTSERV, GSI runs moderated global email discussion groups that let members exchange mutation- and treatment-specific knowledge, practical advice and long-term patient history as members come and go. The LISTSERV solution gave this low‑budget organization a scalable, easy-to-manage communications backbone, sustaining an international 4,000-member community and improving access to peer knowledge and resources.
