Case Study: FORREX achieves streamlined knowledge-sharing and stakeholder engagement with L-Soft's LISTSERV

FORREX, a non-profit that connects natural resource managers with science, experiential and Indigenous knowledge in British Columbia, needed a better way to maintain regular contact with staff, partners and clients while archiving information and letting users control what they received. In 2001 FORREX worked with L-Soft, which donated the LISTSERV software, to provide a flexible mailing-list platform to meet those needs.

Using L-Soft’s LISTSERV, FORREX launched three email lists in 2001 and expanded with eight more lists by 2003, building templates and using LISTSERV’s “clone” feature to scale efficiently. The L-Soft solution increased engagement and timely knowledge sharing — link@listserv.forrex.org reached about 1,900 subscribers, WatershedExt nearly 1,100 and ConservExt more than 400 — while enabling topic-based subscriptions, digests or individual messages and simpler list management.
