A Kurita America Case Study
Craven County, located in eastern North Carolina, faced a challenge with corrosive water produced by their new reverse osmosis/nanofiltration membrane system at their water treatment plant. This aggressive water threatened to corrode the distribution piping system. To stabilize the water, Kurita America furnished a customized calcite contactor system using OptaCell™ Plus horizontal pressure vessels.
Kurita America provided a solution consisting of two customized OptaCell™ Plus vessels configured for counter-flow calcite contactor operation. The system was fully automated with a PLC control system and designed with isolated cells for flexible, redundant operation, allowing for easy media replenishment without taking the entire system offline. This essential finishing process ensured the County's stabilized, high-quality finished water entered the distribution system, protecting the infrastructure from corrosion and maintaining water quality for residents.
