A Kurita America Case Study
A biofuels plant in Iowa faced a critical challenge during its construction when the city's freshwater supply was insufficient for its operational needs. The plant required an alternative secondary water source to avoid halting construction. Kurita America was engaged to design a treatment system for using the city's reclaimed water.
Kurita America implemented a two-step treatment system utilizing microfiltration and reverse osmosis technologies. This system effectively treated the reclaimed water for use in the plant's cooling towers, removing suspended solids, bacteria, and dissolved minerals. The solution allowed the plant to operate successfully, decreasing stress on local freshwater supplies by recycling wastewater. This facility was the first of its kind to use this combined treatment for reclaimed water.
