Tanger Outlets, an industry leader in outlet shopping destinations, needed a way to extract structured data from more than 14 million customer receipt images submitted through its loyalty program. The challenge was to pull fields like sales price, sales tax, location, item, discount, and savings from highly variable, often low-quality receipt photos without relying on costly manual data entry. Tanger Outlets turned to KUNGFU.AI for an AI-powered computer vision solution.

KUNGFU.AI first ran a 6-week feasibility sprint, then built a production-ready receipt extraction system and continued with maintenance and improvement work. The final solution was deployed on Microsoft Azure as a Dockerized microservice with RESTful APIs, processing receipt JPEGs and returning JSON output in under 3 seconds. KUNGFU.AI achieved over 90% accuracy across more than 100 receipt variants and 12 extracted fields, helping Tanger Outlets reduce manual work and unlock a new data monetization opportunity.
