Museum of the City of New York brings King George III to life in a 4,000-pound interactive installation with Kudos Design Collaboratory

The Museum of the City of New York sought to create an impactful interactive installation for its exhibition, "The Occupied City: New York and the American Revolution," to mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Their challenge was to help visitors physically connect with and understand a pivotal historical act of defiance: the toppling of the King George III statue. They commissioned Kudos Design Collaboratory to develop an interactive multimedia experience for this purpose.

Kudos Design Collaboratory developed a custom interactive installation where visitors physically pull on ropes to topple a digitally reconstructed statue of King George III. The solution featured a haptic feedback system that allowed participants to feel the statue's weight and resistance. This immersive experience successfully allowed visitors to embody the collective effort and passion of the historical revolutionaries. The multimedia installation was noted to have exceeded the museum's expectations by making the symbolic act tangible and understandable.
