A Kubernetes Case Study
The New York Times, a long-running digital publisher, wanted to move beyond its legacy VM-based deployments and private data centers to a more cloud-native operating model. Using Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform through GKE, the company set out to improve deployment speed, reduce infrastructure bottlenecks, and give engineering teams more ownership over their applications.
With Kubernetes, The New York Times dramatically sped up releases: deployments that once took 45 minutes now take just a few seconds to a couple of minutes, and teams can deploy independently without coordinating with a central infrastructure group. Kubernetes, along with other CNCF tools, also helped standardize deployment practices, improve portability across cloud providers, and support a path toward broader cloud-native and serverless adoption.
