Supporting Fast Decisioning Applications with Kubernetes

Capital One, a retail banking company in McLean, Virginia, needed a better way to support fast decisioning applications while evolving and operating stateful, multi-tenant workloads in production. The team was looking to modernize its data platform and reduce the complexity of managing a large, custom “snowflake” ecosystem of tools and services.

With Kubernetes, Capital One standardized how tools were deployed and managed across its platform, helping teams bring applications online much faster and with less operational overhead. Capital One reported that a basic decisioning app could be up and running in about a fortnight instead of a quarter or longer, and said Kubernetes could reduce infrastructure costs significantly—potentially avoiding a 3x to 4x increase in pure AWS expense, not counting personnel costs.
