Case Study: Adidas achieves faster releases and stronger e-commerce performance with Kubernetes

A Kubernetes Case Study

Preview of the Adidas Case Study

Staying True to Its Culture, adidas Got 40% of Its Most Impactful Systems Running on Kubernetes in a Year

adidas needed a faster, easier way for engineers to access development tools and get projects running. Although the team was satisfied with its technology stack, simple tasks like provisioning a developer VM involved lengthy request and approval processes. Working with Kubernetes, adidas set out to remove these bottlenecks and improve the developer experience with a cloud native platform.

Kubernetes helped adidas build a platform based on containerization, agile development, continuous delivery, and Kubernetes with Prometheus, supported by Giant Swarm for cluster setup and operations. The results were significant: 100% of the adidas e-commerce site was on Kubernetes within six months, load times were cut in half, releases sped up from every 4-6 weeks to 3-4 times per day, and adidas was running 40% of its most critical systems on the platform, with 4,000 pods, 200 nodes, and 80,000 builds per month.
