Case Study: Ocado accelerates warehouse deployment and scaling with Kubernetes

A Kubernetes Case Study

Preview of the Ocado Case Study

Running Grocery Warehouses with a Cloud Native Platform

Ocado Technology, the grocery retail technology company behind Ocado, needed a platform that could support rapid development, testing, and deployment at scale as its production environment grew more visible and complex. Using Kubernetes, along with Prometheus for observability, the team gained better insight into how changes affected services across the cluster and could identify issues earlier.

Ocado expanded its use of Kubernetes from an early project into production, migrating from Mesos to Kubernetes on its private cloud. The Kubernetes platform now handles bootstrapping, scheduling, and scaling for tens of thousands of order lines per week, with features moving from development to production in as little as a week, compared with more than a month in the old environment.
