Infrastructure for a Growing EdTech Startup

Pear Deck, an educational software company based in Iowa City, Iowa, needed better visibility into what was happening inside its application as it grew quickly after launching its MVP. The startup wanted a more reliable way to understand real user activity and system health beyond basic CPU graphs, and turned to Kubernetes, along with Prometheus, to help address that challenge.

Using Google Kubernetes Engine and Kubernetes, Pear Deck was able to get started quickly with managed infrastructure and immediate health graphs for nodes and pods. Kubernetes and Prometheus also enabled custom instrumentation in about 15 minutes and Slack alerts in roughly an hour, all in one afternoon, giving the team much greater confidence in application state and user activity.
