How Kubernetes Helped a Startup Manage 50 Microservices with 12 Engineers—At 30% Less Cost

Woorank, a Brussels-based digital marketing tool provider, had grown its core product into 50 microservices supported by a team of just 12 engineers. After running smoothly on Mesos for two years, the company found it increasingly cumbersome to maintain its own libraries and infrastructure, and needed a more automated, self-healing platform that better fit its small team.

Woorank switched to Kubernetes on AWS, along with CNCF tools like Fluentd, Prometheus, and OpenTracing. With Kubernetes, maintenance dropped to one part-time person, infrastructure updates shrank from two active days to a few hours, new tools could be deployed in days instead of weeks, and deployments nearly doubled. Most notably, Kubernetes helped Woorank achieve about 30% cost savings while improving visibility and reliability.
