How DENSO Is Fueling Development on the Vehicle Edge with Kubernetes

Denso, one of the world’s largest automotive components suppliers, created a Digital Innovation Department to expand into software for connected cars. The company needed a way to build an integrated vehicle edge and vehicle cloud platform despite limited computing resources, inconsistent mobile connectivity, and a huge number of distributed vehicles. Kubernetes helped Denso address these challenges with a cloud-native, edge-cloud approach.

Denso implemented Kubernetes for orchestration, along with Prometheus, Fluentd, Envoy, Istio, and Helm, across a vehicle edge computer, private Kubernetes cloud, and managed services like GKE, EKS, and AKS. With Kubernetes, Denso unified its environment, simplified maintenance, and accelerated delivery: non-critical software now follows a 2-month development cycle, the team releases 10 new applications per year, and new prototypes are introduced every week.
