Case Study: Nordstrom achieves faster deployments and 10x CPU efficiency with Kubernetes

A Kubernetes Case Study

Preview of the Nordstrom Case Study

Finding Millions in Potential Savings in a Tough Retail Climate

Nordstrom, the Seattle-based retail company, needed to speed up technology operations as it moved from siloed development and operations teams toward a DevOps and cloud-native model. To support that shift, Nordstrom turned to Kubernetes to help orchestrate Docker containers and improve application delivery.

Using Kubernetes, Nordstrom built an enterprise platform that let more than 1,500 developers deploy faster while spending less time managing infrastructure. The results included deployment times dropping from months to minutes, a 5x speedup in one team’s merge-to-deploy cycle, and about a 10x improvement in CPU utilization, reducing thousands of potential VMs down to far fewer resources and lowering operational overhead.
