Case Study: Amadeus achieves multi-data-center scalability with Kubernetes

A Kubernetes Case Study

Another Technical Evolution for a 30-Year-Old Company

Amadeus IT Group, a Madrid-based travel technology company, needed a new platform for its 5,000 service-oriented architecture workloads. As demand grew for applications running outside its main data center in Germany, Amadeus also wanted better high availability, more automation, improved workload distribution, and more efficient use of data center resources. To meet these needs, the company turned to Kubernetes, using Red Hat’s OpenShift Container Platform, a Kubernetes-based enterprise container platform.

With Kubernetes and OpenShift, Amadeus built a cloud-native foundation for new and geographically distributed services. One early success was the Amadeus Airline Cloud Availability solution, which now handles several thousand transactions per second in production and is deployed across multiple data centers worldwide. The implementation gave Amadeus the multi-data center capabilities, automation, and scale it needed, while also enabling new public cloud and customer-facing workloads that were not possible with its previous system.
