The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), a regulatory organization in Washington, DC, needed a better way to support and maintain highly critical custom software while delivering new applications and services more quickly for members and staff. To address this challenge, NAIC turned to Kubernetes and the cloud, aiming to improve agility, resilience, and development speed.

With Kubernetes, NAIC built a new platform using cloud-native practices, open source tools, and GitLab pipelines to speed development and deployment. The results were significant: rapid prototypes that once took at least a month were completed in just two days, projects finished in one year instead of over two years, and costs dropped from $3 million to $500,000 while also reducing defects. NAIC also reported better resilience, near-zero downtime, and faster value delivery, with Kubernetes helping the organization become more open and transparent.
