A KrakenD Case Study
i2S by GFI, the insurance branch of GFI, needed a way to manage and expose a growing set of reactive Java microservices for insurance and pension fund management use cases. As its teams built isolated, autonomous microservices, the company needed a controlled entry point that could simplify integration, support custom insurance requirements, and reduce coordination delays between frontend and backend teams. KrakenD was used as the API gateway and entry point for consuming these services.
KrakenD unified and aggregated the responses from the underlying microservices, added custom middleware such as correlation IDs and authentication, and ran on Kubernetes to support the platform. By helping teams reuse existing endpoints, secure the system, and focus on business logic instead of tooling, KrakenD improved agility and enabled i2S by GFI to release insurance products faster, more securely, and with greater control.
