Adevinta Spain, a large digital marketplace operator with 18 million active users, was looking for a faster company-wide API gateway solution that would also give non-backend teams more autonomy. After researching and benchmarking several options, the company chose KrakenD as its API gateway engine to replace Netflix Zuul.

KrakenD was implemented in production starting in early 2017 and has run successfully ever since, outperforming the other solutions tested. The switch delivered better performance at scale, and Adevinta Spain later contributed back to the ecosystem by releasing KrakenD components for the Netflix stack, including a rate limiter, circuit breaker, and Eureka service discovery integration.
