Churchill Downs Racetrack Reduces Incidents and Saves Big on Workers Comp

Churchill Downs, the historic Louisville racetrack and home of the Kentucky Derby, needed a scalable, customizable, multilingual and mobile-friendly training platform to maintain OSHA and EPA compliance across a fluctuating workforce (230 to 1,500+) and extensive renovation activity. Facing unique hazards—animal feed nutrient management, fuel storage, stormwater and construction—Churchill Downs selected KPA to deliver the training and EHS tools needed to meet those complex requirements.

KPA provided an adaptable EHS platform and online training that Churchill Downs customized with site-specific videos, photos and Spanish-language content, plus QR-tagged asset management and stepwise workflows for permits and fire impairments. The KPA solution improved training completion and inspections (tracking 700+ fire extinguishers), helped drive down incidents and workers’ comp costs, and produced a near year-long stretch with zero OSHA recordable incidents—down from roughly 15–20 incidents a year.
