SuperBock Group - Customer Case Study

SuperBock Group, the largest beverage company in Portugal, faced a fragmented, legacy logistics network—nine production plants feeding multiple external warehouses and distribution centers—that drove up costs, emissions and complexity while limiting storage capacity and productivity. To centralize distribution and achieve energy and cost savings, improved space usage and higher productivity, SuperBock Group engaged Körber AG to deliver a turn‑key automated distribution center and integrated supply‑chain software and automation services.

Körber AG built the Leça do Balio facility with about 50,000‑pallet automated storage (≈32 m high) handled by 10 double‑pallet double‑deep stacker cranes, 72 RGVs in four loops, 11 lifts, 163 fully automated restocking gravity picking lanes (plus 250 semi‑automated locations), and 24 docks fed by 69 gravity lanes, all managed by Körber’s WMS/HMS/Supervision and supported by a 10‑year maintenance and 24/7 on‑site operation. The solution reduced energy use (speed drives and energy‑recovery systems), centralized inventory flows, lowered operating costs and emissions, maintained productivity, cut order‑preparation errors and delivered full product traceability for SuperBock Group.
