A Körber AG Case Study
Koehler Paper Group, a €700 million turnover, 1,800‑employee producer of specialty papers and a global leader in thermal papers and beer mats, faced capacity and cost pressures at its Oberkirch site as existing warehouse structures and numerous external warehouses could no longer keep up with growing demand. They engaged Körber AG to create a new automated cutting and logistics center, including Körber’s K.Motion PMS process management system (with K.Motion PMS‑W/M and K.Sight PMS‑V) to deliver flexible, industry‑specific material flows and process control.
Körber AG implemented a five‑aisle high‑bay warehouse (16,000–19,000 pallet positions) with 4+1 stacker cranes (including a shuttle aisle), conveyors, tilting station, pallet‑type recognition cameras, depalletizers and full integration to Koehler’s SAP. The solution delivers measured throughput of 100 pallets/hour for storage and 147 pallets/hour for retrieval (120 pallets/hour to shipping), up to ~34 double cycles/hour per aisle, handles rolls up to 2–3 tonnes, and provides real‑time inventory, consolidated packing and reduced reliance on external warehouses.
