A Körber AG Case Study
Euro Car Parts, the UK’s largest car parts supplier and part of LKQ Corporation, needed to validate the design and operational assumptions for its new Tamworth 2 national distribution centre (over 1 million sq. ft.) to reduce risk, capex and disruption while preserving same‑day/next‑day service. Key challenges included congestion in VNA and wide‑aisle picking, inbound/outbound marshalling, headcount and MHE requirements, and the need to test alternative layouts and peak‑period capacity without costly on‑site changes. Euro Car Parts engaged Körber AG to apply its K.Sight CLASS warehouse simulation and consultancy for a fast, risk‑free validation.
Körber AG used K.Sight CLASS to build to‑scale models, run forecast volumes and scenario tests, and deliver a model handover plus training so Euro Car Parts could continue in‑house modelling. The simulations revealed congestion hotspots, validated decant stations and dock door counts, enabled low‑cost aisle and process adjustments, produced packing “cheat sheets,” and identified cost savings by optimising headcount and MHE numbers. As a result, the solution fast‑tracked a working model, increased confidence in the final design, and has been rolled out across the business as a best‑practice tool.
