A Körber AG Case Study
Netto, the Danish supermarket chain operating a fully automated distribution center in Køge that supplies 454 stores, faced aging Layer Picker control equipment, rising maintenance costs and increasing product variety that exceeded the original system’s handling capabilities and forced manual intervention. Netto engaged Körber AG to modernize the picking heads and associated equipment (K.Handle Layer Picker® hoists, descrambler and stripper units) to expand automatic handling, improve ergonomics and reduce upkeep.
Körber AG replaced three Layer Picker® heads, three stripper units and upgraded the descrambler, secured spare‑part availability and completed the work in a compact three‑weekend schedule to avoid production downtime. The Körber AG upgrade increased capacity and continuity, improved handling of light, small and heavy items (raising automatic handling well beyond the previous ~80% toward >95%), reduced manual handling and ergonomic strain, cut the regular working week from six to five days and lowered errors and maintenance needs.
