A Körber AG Case Study
Carl Roth GmbH, a Karlsruhe-based distributor of laboratory supplies and chemicals that delivers across Germany within 24 hours, faced a growing service demand combined with high error rates from manual order picking and strict explosion-protection requirements for hazardous goods. Körber AG was engaged to modernize Carl Roth’s warehousing and create a goods-to-picker system and logistics center tailored to hazardous materials and fast turnaround times.
Körber AG implemented a five-aisle automated miniload (approx. 21,000 tote positions) with goods-to-picker put-to-light picking stations, conveyor loops, automated weight-based order completeness checks, and real-time IT: K.Motion PMS-M, K.Motion PMS-W, the energy-saving K.Motion PMS-E and visualization K.Sight PMS-V. The installation delivers up to 190 SRM inputs/outputs per hour (116 double cycles/h), supplies 4 picking and 16 packing stations, includes energy recovery, and resulted in reliable, faster 24-hour dispatches, a reduced error rate and an increased level of service.
