Seattle Public Utilities builds AI QA/QC ecosystem with Kopius after Phase 1 success

Seattle Public Utilities faced a challenge with inconsistencies in how its CCTV operators coded pipeline inspections, known as PACP coding. These inaccuracies, handled by the vendor Kopius, risked leading to costly repairs or missed maintenance needs by affecting critical decision-making processes.

Kopius developed a solution using Azure AI to compare operator coding against a benchmark standard, visualized through a Power BI dashboard to highlight discrepancies. This allowed for targeted operator training, which was further supported by an AI agent for quick access to coding guidelines. The results were positive, leading to a Phase 2 project where Kopius is expanding the system into a full QA/QC ecosystem with interactive dashboards and a human-in-the-loop feedback mechanism.
