The Motley Fool Modernizes API Management with Kong

The Motley Fool, a leading financial information company, faced slow adoption of microservices and delayed time to market because interim, homegrown API solutions required costly custom development for common needs (for example, OAuth for an Alexa skill). To address these challenges they evaluated and chose Kong—deploying Kong Enterprise as their modern API gateway and management platform.

Kong implemented Kong Enterprise as a service control platform—replacing legacy and custom gateways—with out‑of‑the‑box plugins for OAuth, OIDC, proxy caching, a Developer Portal and canary releases to reduce custom code. As a result, Kong enabled a 5X acceleration in time to market for authentication and other services, increased adoption across hundreds of APIs, unified traffic under a single gateway proxying hundreds of services and billions of API calls annually, and improved developer experience while reducing latency.
