How McAfee Leverages Kong Gateway for Data Ingestion at Scale

McAfee, a global leader in online protection, needed a more cost-effective way to scale its consumer data ingestion as volumes and sources grew to more than 80 inputs and up to 150 MB per second. The company wanted better control over costs, plus stronger monitoring, alerting, data enrichment, and centralized gateway capabilities. Kong Gateway was selected to help meet those requirements.

Using Kong Gateway with a hybrid control and data plane architecture, McAfee improved scalability, reliability, and configurability while integrating with its queueing system through plugins. Kong enabled low-latency, high-throughput ingestion at 150 MB/s and helped McAfee cut costs by 50% compared with its previous ingestion systems. The Kong-based setup also improved isolation, security, and development efficiency for future data use cases.
