Globo Centralizes Service Connectivity and Security With Kong

Globo, the largest media group in Latin America, faced a fragmented approach to API management across its radio, TV and web brands and a move toward subscription-based services that required onboarding new users and migrating to identity platforms. To consolidate API infrastructure and support thousands of microservices and high traffic volumes, Globo adopted Kong—starting with Kong open source and upgrading to Kong Enterprise for enterprise features and OpenID Connect support.

Kong Enterprise was deployed as Globo’s centralized service connectivity platform (running on Kubernetes with an OIDC policy), providing a single authentication entry point, Admin API and Developer Portal and enabling a “gateway-as-a-service” model. With Kong, Globo empowered self-service access for developers, reduced the time to add a route by 99% (from three business days to one hour), established its Digital Hub as the API operations center of excellence, and now runs Kong in front of 120 production services with plans to onboard many more.
