First Abu Dhabi Bank Accelerates Cloud Connectivity With Kong

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the UAE’s largest bank, needed to accelerate a company-wide DevOps and cloud transformation by decomposing monolithic applications into microservices while meeting strict financial-industry requirements (OAuth, mTLS, LDAP) without heavy custom development. To solve this, FAB selected Kong, deploying Kong’s API gateway and the Kong Kubernetes Ingress Controller to provide a single entry point and standardized, plugin-driven connectivity across legacy and cloud-native services.

Kong’s plug-and-play architecture and container-friendly ingress controller unified traffic management and delivered industry-standard plugins out of the box, letting FAB focus on product development. Using Kong, FAB cut operational costs by 57%, reduced delivery time for a commercial mobile banking app from seven months to three, saved roughly four months of custom development effort, retired legacy infrastructure for a containerized platform, and is expanding its API footprint from about 200 toward 500 endpoints.
