Fraud Console Reduces Click Volume

Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby and operator of the TwinSpires wagering app, faced an unexpected spike in reported app installs and a corresponding abnormally high invoice after a Derby season. The install-to-conversion profile looked suspicious—click-to-install rates were several times higher than the prior year and many installs produced no post-install activity—so Churchill Downs engaged Kochava and its Fraud Console to investigate the data.

Kochava’s Fraud Console and anti-fraud algorithms exposed the bad transactions, flagging high-volume IP addresses and device IDs, click/install geographic outliers, extremely short mean-time-to-install rates, and ad stacking. Using Kochava’s mitigation tools, TwinSpires supplied evidence of malpractice to partners, adjusted media relationships, and reduced fraudulent click volume and inflated acquisition costs.
