University of Birmingham - Customer Case Study

The University of Birmingham, the UK’s fourth largest university, manages an IT procurement spend of £30m–£40m a year and was struggling with suppliers charging disproportionately high prices on major IT purchases. To tackle this challenge, it turned to KnowledgeBus and its procurement benchmarking platform to gain better visibility into pricing and supplier margins.

KnowledgeBus was implemented alongside the university’s procurement hub to benchmark purchases against live trade guide prices and stock levels across more than 150,000 products. The tool helped the university identify overcharged historic purchases, negotiate improved pricing with suppliers, and reduce average margins from 20% to 8%, delivering savings of more than £70,000 in the first six months.
