The Birkenfeld National Park District in Rhineland-Palatinate needed to strengthen cybersecurity for its administration and train staff to resist increasingly sophisticated attacks. After evaluating options, the district chose KnowBe4’s security awareness training and simulated phishing platform to build a human firewall for its roughly 200+ employees and address the urgent threat facing public administrations.

With implementation support from partner save IT first, KnowBe4 was deployed in August 2022 and the first simulated phishing test ran in September 2022. Today 208 users complete regular training (completion rates consistently above 95%), and the district’s phish‑prone rate fell from 15.7% to 3% in under a year; KnowBe4’s automation also reduced IT workload. Birkenfeld is expanding use of KnowBe4 (including plans for the Phish Alert Button) to further lower risk and save resources.
