ENAV, the Italian air navigation service provider, needed a way to analyze and optimize air traffic flow over Italian airspace and monitor operational performance across a very large volume of flight data. To address this challenge, ENAV chose KNOWAGE for its air traffic monitoring and analytics capabilities.

KNOWAGE integrated nine flight-related data sources from 2013 onward, combining airport activity and position data sampled every 30 seconds to create a unified view of operations. This allowed ENAV to locate any one of 1.8 million annual flights within seconds, visualize planned, actual, and actualized routes on a map, and perform cross-domain analysis through dashboards, OLAP, pivot tables, QbE, drill-down, and cross-navigation. After adding five more operational data sources, ENAV was able to carry out broader performance analysis across airspace, airports, and flights, making analysis faster, easier, and more reusable.
