Recommendation Engine for E-Commerce Marketing Campaigns

Würth Group, through Würth Srl, needed a way to boost customer engagement and online purchases after launching its e-commerce business alongside its traditional sales channels. The company wanted to automatically generate personalized email campaigns and offers based on customer behavior, preferences, and purchase habits. KNIME helped address this challenge with a recommendation engine built with KNIME software, alongside data from the online shop, data warehouse, and CRM.

KNIME and partner Miriade implemented a Big Data Recommendation Engine using collaborative filtering, with data ingested into Hadoop, cleaned, categorized, and prepared for predictive analytics. Workflows for data ingestion and model generation were automated with KNIME Server Scheduler, while KNIME WebPortal supported dashboards and KPIs. The result was fully automated, personalized marketing campaigns for Würth products, delivered in a project completed in about 4–5 months.
