A KNIME Case Study
Würth Group, a market leader in assembly and fastening materials, needed a scalable way to identify environmental hotspots across its screw portfolio and improve carbon-footprint transparency. The challenge involved blending millions of data points from internal ERP data, manufacturing information, and external life cycle assessment (LCA) sources—work that had traditionally been too manual and time-intensive to scale. KNIME Analytics Platform was used to support the data science workflow.
Working with Fraunhofer IBP, KNIME helped Würth Group build a modular mapping algorithm and automated LCA workflow to combine product, manufacturing, and background emissions data. The result was the analysis of 24,000 CO2 footprints in less than two minutes, along with deeper insights into production-route and module-level hotspots. KNIME’s reusable, scalable workflows also made the solution easier to update and extend to other products.
