Case Study: City of Austin achieves streamlined asset management and real-time mobile workflows with Knack

A Knack Case Study

Preview of the City of Austin Case Study

How Knack helped the Austin government unblock data gridlock

The City of Austin Department of Transportation’s Arterial Management Division was mired in disorganized data—multiple spreadsheet copies, paper work tickets, and slow, manual reporting—that blocked timely responses to traffic issues. John Clary was brought in to build a modern, cloud-based solution that could support custom workflows and a largely mobile workforce without the delays of enterprise IT procurement.

Using Knack, he created lightweight apps that became a single source of truth, integrated the 311 system via API, and put tickets and asset inventories on mobile devices, reducing the paper-driven workflow from six steps to two. The result was faster incident response, dramatically shorter reporting and information-request times, accurate asset inventory, staff-time and cost savings, and new apps and analytics that enable proactive maintenance and broader adoption across the city.
