Case Study: BD Dataplan achieves up-to-date nationwide COVID-19 tracking and visualization with Knack

A Knack Case Study

Preview of the BD Dataplan Case Study

How Knack helped one man make a difference for his country and beyond

BD Dataplan founder Bart Bolkestein needed an affordable, easy way to build online databases for his consultancy work, and during the COVID‑19 pandemic he discovered that Dutch infection data was fragmented, unstructured, and hard to verify. Faced with costly, complex tools, he set out to create a public, trustworthy dashboard that could consolidate outbreak locations, allow community reporting, and present actionable regional insights.

He chose Knack’s no‑code platform to build the Corona Locator, adding user roles, verification workflows, a public submission form, and a heatmap with filters by township, province and school district. Knack’s support (including a free upgrade) and later automation via Python and the Knack API let him scale reporting and post daily updates via Twitter; the app gained thousands of followers, media attention, and was even used by German authorities for travel decisions.
