Karma is a Swedish startup founded by Hjalmar Ståhlberg Nordegren, Elsa Bernadotte, Ludvig Berling and Mattis Larsson that launched in 2015 after joining the Sting accelerator. Their original marketplace for deals saw strong downloads but very low retention—users didn’t understand when or why to use the app—leaving the team with a shrinking runway and no clear product-market fit.

Using data analysis and user conversations, they pivoted to an app that lets consumers buy surplus food at steep discounts, which tripled retention. They automated analytics with Klipfolio dashboards to focus on key KPIs, raised successive funding rounds (including €600k from Norrsken and later Series A financing), scaled across multiple countries with hundreds of thousands of users and thousands of business partners, and delivered measurable impact (hundreds of tonnes of food rescued and CO2 saved).
