An ecommerce makeover for Bulk Candy Store

Bulk Candy Store, a family-run sweets retailer with an ecommerce site since 1997, faced a stalled online growth trajectory due to an aging platform and high maintenance overhead. Co-founder and CTO Ken Shenkman followed recommendations from ecommerce advisor TJ Gamble to migrate to BigCommerce and implement Klevu’s Discovery Suite—using Klevu Smart Search and Smart Merchandising—to modernize site search and merchandising.

Klevu’s solution was installed quickly and began learning from shopper behavior, prompting UI tweaks (like a persistent, full-width search bar) and merchandising changes (e.g., a visible freeze-dried candy category). The results with Klevu were significant: 74% higher category page conversions, 60% higher category page per-session value, search-driven revenue 2.7x that of non-search, and per-session value from search of $1.91 vs $0.82 when search wasn’t used.
