Largest U.S. Public Health Care System Looks to Accellion to Share PHI Securely

NYC Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest public health system, needed a secure but user-friendly way for clinicians and staff to share protected health information (PHI) with external partners without delaying care. Existing DLP controls were correctly blocking risky transfers but also hindered necessary communications, creating workflow bottlenecks and impacting patient safety and efficiency.

Kiteworks was deployed (pilot with 6,000 users) to provide secure email/file transfer via a Microsoft Outlook plugin, automated transfer, web forms, APIs, and ECM connectors to Box and Dropbox—letting users send links to protected content and maintain consistent DLP screening. The result was rapid adoption, safer PHI exchanges, streamlined collaboration across locations and devices, and increased productivity from a single, governed view of enterprise content.
