Maximizing water efficiency conservation in California desert for Imperial Irrigation District

The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) faced the challenge of maintaining an aging, internally-developed water data system that was becoming costly to support. The system could not efficiently handle increasing demands for varied data collection and processing, which were critical for responding to environmental and regulatory changes in their California desert water network. IID selected KISTERS through a competitive tender to implement a modern solution.

KISTERS implemented its WISKI platform to replace the legacy system, centralizing data for daily workflows and future planning. A key component was the enhanced On-Farm Decision Support System (OFDSS), which uses complex algorithms to calculate water usage and manage conservation payments to farmers. The solution from KISTERS saved significant labor days, improved data accuracy for compliance with water transfer agreements, and provided a flexible web interface for better internal communication and program management.
