A KISTERS Case Study
The London Borough of Hillingdon faced significant surface water flooding, exacerbated by climate change, which damaged over 80 properties in a 2016 event. Their challenge was a lack of real-time data and early warning systems, hindering their ability to prepare for and respond to floods. To address this, they partnered with KISTERS to improve monitoring, awareness, and community alerts.
KISTERS implemented a solution using its KISTERS-datasphere and KISTERS-HydroMaster platforms, alongside a new sensor network. This provided real-time data visualization, forecasted rainfall alerts, and a historical data archive. The system enabled faster response times, automated warnings to officials and residents, and supported the creation of detailed flood reports. The project successfully built a foundational system for data sharing and significantly improved Hillingdon's flood resilience.
