Queen’s Psychiatry eliminates cost barriers through seamless transition to virtual MMI

Queen's University Department of Psychiatry needed to move its Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) online to remove travel and financial barriers for applicants while still conveying the warmth and camaraderie of their program. They partnered with Kira Talent, adopting Kira’s Live Interviewing and Asynchronous Assessment to replicate their MMI format virtually and collect competency-based responses early in the admissions cycle.

Kira Talent provided platform onboarding, rubric and question design, pre-recorded video capabilities, and 24/7 day-of support, while Queen’s used horizontal reviewer assignments to reduce bias and combine Kira assessments with written applications for holistic decisions. The result was a seamless, bug-free virtual MMI with strong applicant feedback, the ability to interview more candidates per day, reduced travel costs for applicants, and improved reliability and objectivity in competency scoring.
