A Kira Talent Case Study
The University of Alberta Faculty of Science needed a faster, more objective way to evaluate a surge of applicants for its Science Mentor Program. The program had previously relied on time-consuming in-person interviews, and with more than double the usual number of applicants, staff wanted a scalable process that could better identify student leaders and the soft skills needed for effective mentoring. Kira Talent was used to assess mentor candidates through virtual interviews.
Kira Talent helped the University of Alberta Faculty of Science formalize its recruitment process with objective competencies, anti-bias training, and timed video and written responses to evaluate communication, leadership, and fit. The result was a more efficient and transparent selection process, with measurable benefits including handling more than double the applicant volume, saving weeks of interview time, and producing more qualified mentors whose skills aligned more closely with the program’s goals.
