Microsoft Entra streamlines re-onboarding in 4 stages with Kipwise

Microsoft Entra, a major identity and access management service, faced the challenge of safely and efficiently re-onboarding returning employees, or "boomerang" employees. The standard new-hire process was a poor fit, as it wasted time reteaching stable information while failing to address the specific knowledge gaps and outdated access that could lead to security risks or errors based on obsolete procedures. They partnered with vendor Kipwise to leverage its AI company brain to address this unique re-onboarding workflow.

Kipwise implemented a solution that created a tailored re-onboarding plan by calculating a "knowledge delta" between the employee's previous and current context. The Kipwise system rebuilt access from current attributes in a zero-trust model, identified only the policies and procedures that had materially changed since the employee's departure, and verified understanding through practical scenario checks. This resulted in a short, defensible re-entry plan that ensured returning employees regained productivity quickly and safely with current permissions and knowledge, eliminating the risks associated with restoring obsolete access or trusting outdated memories.
