McDonald’s UK, in partnership with learning provider Kineo, faced a rollout of a new till system and needed a safe, engaging way for crew to learn without impacting customers. The objectives were clear: speed up service, increase average spend and make training fun so employees would adopt it voluntarily.
Kineo built a real-time, gamified till simulation with timed orders, customer interaction, lifelines and achievement mechanics to teach skills and assess knowledge. The game proved hugely popular (145,000 plays in year one), with 85% of crew reporting improved understanding; measured business results included a 7.9‑second reduction in till service time, a 15p rise in average cheque (≈£18,000 per restaurant), awards, and wider European rollout.
