Case Study: City & Guilds achieves higher learner engagement and retention with Kineo's blended learning solution

A Kineo Case Study

Preview of the City & Guilds Case Study

A blended learning journey the City & Guilds Way

City & Guilds, a global leader in skills education, commissioned the City & Guilds Way to tackle falling retention and engagement among vocational learners—particularly in the Food & Drink sector where training providers face mixed‑ability cohorts and many 16–24‑year‑old learners who are digitally native but disengaged from traditional education.

The pilot delivered an integrated, technology‑led learner journey: an “All Things” portal (Totara LMS + Drupal), personalised learning routemaps and tutor views, an engagement layer with points, badges and challenges, community spaces, and 40+ short digital learning resources. Early results were strong—87% of learners rated the e‑learning good or very good, 91% said they’d be more likely to complete with the system in place, 67% learned more than expected, 56% felt more part of a learner community and tutors reported using points to personalise challenges; feedback from colleges described unprecedented levels of engagement.
